Ben Schott (of the Miscellany) has a new word blog

If anyone can clarify the pronunciation of "Schott" for me—whether like "skot" or "shot"—I'll be very grateful.

Not like I know the guy, but if it comes directly from German then it's "shot". Of course, there's always the chance that it mutated over time or that there's a specific regional pronunciation. So basically I can't help you at all. :)

I heard him on the radio when the first book came out: he uses 'shot.'
