It's the emphasis.

No one in Britain says "super, super." No one in Britain says, "super," in fact, except to refer to a boss or someone who runs a building.

The sound of American accents is really pricking up my ears on this trip.

Oh, I see. Um, that's like super weird that I didn't notice, but I guess I'm totally used to American diction at this point.
