A last smatter.
• The Movies as Medium, ed. Lewis Jacobs, 1970. Might have been an insightful, critical guide to the formal aspects of film in 1970, but today it feels quite dated. Bought for $1 from the outside shelf at the Brattle Bookstore on a pleasant stroll with Jesse Ross and Lisa Larson in the summer of 1999. For you: $0.
• Destination Culture, Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett. A very academic chunk of pulp concerning the "agency of presentation." It didn't have the combination of fascinating subject matter and insightful prose that I look for in academic works, but maybe it will tickle someone's fancy. Has an intriguing picture of Gomez-Peña on the front. Flipping through it makes you feel it might be fun to be the chair of a performance studies department. Reading the text reminds you that it wouldn't. For you: $0.
• Practical Programming in Tcl and Tk, Welch. A practical oxymoron. Contains a floppy disk, seal unbroken: "NOTICE TO CONSUMERS / This book cannot be returned for credit or refund if the perforation on the vinyl disk holder is broken or tampered with." The performation is intact. For you: $0.
Q: Ezra, how do I get ahold of one of these?
A: Send an email to ezra at this domain, silly.
