(For the beauty-and-sadness-non-cognoscente, Cat Power is the saddest of all singer-songwriters, and amongst the most beautiful. Sadder, that is, than Elliott Smith, sadder than Matt & Jen of Carissa's Wierd, and even sadder than Beth Orton. Sadder than Fiona Apple in a hard funk, certainly. Listening to Cat Power is like floating in your mother's womb and seeing the so-called "light" at the end of the tunnel: ah, but what dreams may come when we have shuffled down that mortal tube...)
