Spoken For/  /July 17, 2003

Angels and ministers of grace preserve us! Dave Winer now speaks for all heterosexuals: "...go get a copy of Joe Cocker's You Are So Beautiful. In his crackly, squeaky imperfect way he speaks for every man who has ever loved a woman." Consider me co-opted! I'm at least half heterosexual and roughly half male, and I can't find anything about "You Are So Beautiful" that appeals to me or speaks for me (on the other hand, "fixing her hair" is a great characterization of a woman—the narrator—who I could get into). But then I don't speak with the authority of Dave Winer.

In other news, Halley sees the Loch Ness Monster as an obstacle to her coming-out process.

Houston always was Clemens' most logical choice. He can stay home and follow his own program, remain in the same organization as his son, Class A third baseman Koby Clemens http://mike-18.blogspot.com/

The Astros have been in even worse shape, using three starters with less than two years of major-league experience. Signing Clemens to go with right-hander Roy Oswalt and left-hander Andy Pettitte again gives them a legitimate Big Three once again. If Clemens, after several minor-league tuneups, proves anywhere near as good as he was last season, he will give the team precisely the lift it needs.
