My dear, I am hounded by much Evil these last twenty-four hours. I have many times been distracted, confounded, slacked, sun-baked or drink-soaked into inaction. Six or seven times the metaphorical digital pen has touched its imaginary paper and brought up nought but some intricate paragraphs leading to no end. I have wanted to respond in reams to recently raised questions about manhood, femininity, artistic creation, good and evil. Meanwhile I have been put away from my logistical labors, drawn up short of completing the templates for a website that would track my theatrical explorations this summer, completely ignored my imperative to create code, and let go a pounding symphonic rock performance by no less a band than Kinski. I took only half an hour last night to note to note in my spent diary the elaborate machinations of my recent life. I have not written you in coffee-only-knows how long. Please forgive.

The Astros have been in even worse shape, using three starters with less than two years of major-league experience. Signing Clemens to go with right-hander Roy Oswalt and left-hander Andy Pettitte again gives them a legitimate Big Three once again. If Clemens, after several minor-league tuneups, proves anywhere near as good as he was last season, he will give the team precisely the lift it needs.
