Never as sharp as Mr. Flanagan,
my Helvetica/Arial radar
(Ardar? Radetica?) was stumped by both "WINDOWS" and
"Microsoft." Perhaps my
life-long aversion to both Windows and Microsoft has dulled my sensitivities.
Impishly, I prefer Arial to Helvetica on-screen on the Mac, because it seems better kerned, and drastically so. MacOS X has blessed us, however, with "Helvetica Neue," which is well-kerned and true to the Helvetica design, and comes in a wide range of weights and two widths, so when it's anti-aliased (as it always is in OS X) the result is honey-like.
